News : Man invents "Robotic Suitcase," Uses Bluetooth Signal On Phones To Follow Owner

It isn’t clear how it might react if you are running to catch a flight but a young inventor has come up with a ‘robotic’ suitcase that requires no carrying.

A video on YouTube has revealed a prototype of the ‘Hop!’ suitcase, which uses the Bluetooth signal on your smart phone to guide it along behind you.

The clip – which has received some 35,000 views – shows a man walking while the small suitcase dutifully follows albeit at a slow and occasionally jerky speed.

The basic technology behind the novelty is the work of Spanish native Rodrigo Garcia Gonzalez.

The phone signal is received by three sensors in the luggage, a microprocessor driving two caterpillar tracks that power the suitcase along.

If the signal is lost, the bag will lock itself and vibrate its owner’s phone.

Mr Gonzalez’s design was one of the winners of Spain’s James Dyson Award this year and, he admits, needs some fine tuning.

He is now studying a Master’s in Innovation, Design and Engineering in London and hopes to gather a team to work on the project and find funding.

The 28-year-old said: ‘It’s not working 100 per cent and it’s not ready for the market but it’s something I’d like to develop.

‘I think in the future it’s something we could see often.’ #TRUETALK!!!

SPERM SELLING BUSINESS BOOMING IN GHANA

Sperm has become one of the hottest commodities being sold in Ghana and many parts of the world.

The target market for this new booming venture are couples suffering from male infertility, l*sbian couples, and single women who pay huge amounts of money to access it.

According to latest reports, sperm has become one of the hottest commodities being sold in Ghana. The target market for this new booming venture are couples suffering from male infertility, lesbian couples, and single women who pay huge amounts of money to access it.

“Selling of sperm is gradually becoming the new business frontier booming in Ghana because it has many uses in today’s society: making babies, sperm banks, and putting volume in limp hair in order to make it long,” a medical student at the University of Ghana Medical School, who sold sperm five times to a Fertility Centre in Accra for GH¢10, 000 ($5,280), told Economic Tribune (ET).

The medical student, who gave his name only as Mensah, said even though selling of sperm was a risky business, it was also rewarding as well.

“I use the proceeds from this business to pay my fees and also support my close pals. Who knows how long I will continue? But whatever happens, I know I can look back on many happy families that I have helped to create,” he stated.

Mrs Naomi Suame, a shop owner at East Legon and many parts of Accra, has been married for 15 years and has two children, none of whom biologically belongs to her husband.

“I discovered my husband was infertile when we got married after two years. But I wanted to experience motherhood. I decided to have artificial insemination. I have never cheated on him. I just got sperm from a willing seller and got two healthy babies. Is that not wonderful?” she asked. In the case of Naomi, she got a young man from the University of Cape Coast, paid him GH¢12,000 ($6,322) and took his sperm, which she used twice to get the babies.

“Sperm is one of the scared commodities for many of us. There is a high demand for it and many young men are going into this venture selling their sperm to help others, who needs it for one reason or the other,” Naomi explained.

Investigations conducted by ET revealed that due to the huge capital outlay of the process, women have now devised a way of beating the system by getting donors (sperm sellers) whom they take to the Fertility Centres for harvesting at a cheaper cost and then having the sperm induced in their uterus’s.

CHAI! KPELE OH : FRANCE SHOOT DOW FLAMIGOES

Nigeria’s Aminat Yakubu competing with France’s Noemie Carage during their U-17 Women’s World Cup quater-final match in Baku Azerbaijan…on Thursday. France won 5-4 on penalties.

Nigeria again failed to advance beyond the quarter-final of the U-17 Women’s World Cup after falling to France 5-4 on penalties at the competition in Azerbaijan on Thursday.

At the last edition held in Trinidad and Tobago in 2010, Nigeria were stopped by Korea Republic in the quarter-finals. The team have never made it to the semi-finals before.

Nigeria’s game in Baku was the only so far, in this year’s edition to end in a penalty shootout.

Coach Peter Dedevbo believes the French ladies mastered their strategies and outplayed them when it mattered.

“France read us very well. We had our strategies, but they did not pay off. Sometimes football is like that. I am not happy, I have taken my team twice to the World Cup and we lost twice in the quarter-finals. I am not happy at all.” Dedevbo said.

The game ended goalless in regulation time but the French made no pretence of what was to come when the game started as they controlled the game from the beginning.

Ghoutia Karchouni almost punished the Flamingos early on when they fell asleep during a short corner, but goalkeeper Gift Andy saved her curling shot. Aminat Yakubu then reminded France that they must stay on their toes, bursting down the right to cross, but it was well cut out.

The night took a turn against Nigeria when captain Victoria Adielomon received only the second red card of the tournament for her second yellow of the night. Her stand-in Halimatu Ayinde almost snatched the game on 84 minutes though, but she slid her shot into the side-netting when baring down on Bruneau’s goal.

With time up, Sandie Toletti, Ugochi Emenayo and Lea Declercq exchanged efforts before Sarah Nnodim put horribly wide. It fell to Marion Romanelli to tuck home the winner and send Nigeria packing in the tournament. #TRUETALK!!!

DAVIDO TELLS MTV : CHRIS BROWN AND TYGA 4 DAMI DURO REMIX, RICK ROSS ON BACK WHE REMIX...

The Wrap Up’s Afrobeat columnist Nonny Orakwue recently caught up

with Davido – one of Nigeria’s hottest new kids on the block. Making his

emergence on the scene in 2011 with the smash ‘Back When’, the teenage artist and producer has already performed to audiences in four continents, opened for D’Banj and been nominated for a string of awards. We speak to Davido about the evolution of the Nigerian music industry, his heart throb status and more…

The Wrap Up: How would you describe your sound in three

words?

Davido: Sexy, enjoyable and danceable.

TWU: You could be described as a triple threat with your skills

in performing and production. How did you start out?

Davido: I started as a producer at first in Nigeria, just pushing local artists, then I just thought I would sing. I got tired of taking my work to the studio to get mixed, so I learnt that too and that’s how I got into the producing, singing and engineering.

TWU: Which artists have influenced your sound and music?

Davido: A lot of Nigerian artists, from 2Face to D’Banj. I like American

music as well, people like Timbaland, Pharrell, Vybz Kartel, Movado – a

mixture of stuff really.

TWU: You’re best known for your two distinctive hits ‘Back When’ and ‘Dami Duro’. If you could have any artist remix

them, who would it be?

Davido: Chris Brown and Tyga for ‘Dami Duro’ because I heard a DJ mix

on the internet where they put Chris Brown’s verse on it and it was

insane. For ‘Back When’ I’d put Rick Ross on it for something hard.

TWU: What was the inspiration behind ‘Dami Duro and ‘Back

When’?

Davido: I recorded ‘Back When’ in London on Old Kent Road. I just did

it; I came back from the club and went straight into the studio and that’s when it just came out – thank God it worked. I recorded ‘Dami Duro’ back in October. In Nigeria I was getting a lot of critics asking if I was a one hit wonder, so I made that song for the haters really – but I’m happy with how it came out.

TWU: You hooked up with UK afrobeats artist Dotstar on the

‘Expensive’ remix. How did that come about and do you have plans to work with any other UK artists?

Davido: My manager was helping Dotstar with some stuff when I heard that Dr. Sid was there – me and him are close, so I just hopped on it. I want to work with Tinie of course. And L Marshall; we went to high school together before he moved out here and we’re planning to do something as well. Tinchy too… that’s it really.

TWU: When you’re not making music, what do you usually get

up to?

Davido: I chill with my cousins and friends… but my life has always

been around music. I’m trying not to slow down because in this industry

I feel like there’s always somebody out there that’s hungrier than you and wants your spot. If you try and relax, somebody will take it. So I’m Just trying to work, work, work… I’m not even trying to take a break at all.

TWU: Which three items can’t you leave the house without?

Davido: My phone, of course! My headphones, because I try and take

them everywhere so that I can listen to stuff… and my ATM card.

TWU: Right now in African entertainment you’re seen as a bit of a heartthrob. What is your ideal woman?

Davido: I don’t really have an ideal woman, it is just whoever I fall in love with; but she would be smart and have her own money because I’m not into girls who just want money. I’d like someone who has her own goals and who would support my stuff.

TWU: You and the whole HKN crew are quite distinct in your style – you dress in a similar fashion to UK and US artists. What has been the response from the older generation in Nigeria?

Davido: If I am performing at a wedding or something I make sure not

to expose my body, but I feel like the people that really care about things like that are getting older and younger people are replacing them. In America, there are a lot of things you can get away with in the industry – you can have sex tapes or pictures of people smoking and people don’t really care. I am not saying that it is right, but I feel like in

Nigeria people are moving more towards that direction; but people have to be careful. I look at myself as a role model and I wouldn’t want kids looking at me saying ‘Davido has tattoos, I want tattoos!’

TWU: Speaking about the evolution of the Nigerian music industry, where do you see it going?

Davido: I see it going super international. We have D’Banj working with Big Sean and Kanye West and P Square working with Akon. It’s crazy,

it’s about to go down!

TWU: Finally, what features or collaborations can we expect from you in the future?

Davido: I have tunes with Ice Prince and Wizkid coming out, and May

D… and I would like to work with Flavour.

NA WA OH!!! : CHRISTIAN STUDENTS EXECUTED BY BOKO HARAM IN NIGERIA ; BELIEVERS PRAY 4 CHANGE OF HEART

Multiple sources have confirmed that about 25 to 30 Christian college students were massacred at a university in northeastern Nigeria late Monday night, causing Christians to pray for a "change of heart" among the extremist Islamist group Boko Haram to put a stop to the continued violence.
While there is speculation as to the motive of the massacre, sources close to the human rights watchdog Open Doors USA confirm that the massacre was performed by Boko Haram.
Emily Fuentes, the communications and public relations coordinator for Open Doors who recently visited Nigeria and spoke to Christian leaders about Boko Haram, told The Christian Post that believers around the world can agree that prayer is the "only thing that will change the people of Boko Haram."
"There are people who are turning to Christ who used to be in the Boko Haram, and God is changing their hearts," Fuentes told CP.
"A lot of Christians believe that God will change these peoples' hearts," she added.
The killings reportedly occurred in the late night hours on Oct. 1, when masked gunmen went door-to-door in the off-campus housing section of Federal Polytechnic College in Mubi, a city in the remote Adamawa State in northeastern Nigeria.

Open Doors USA sources confirmed that the gunmen separated the Christian students from the Muslim students, addressed each victim by name, questioned them, and then proceeded to shoot them or slit their throat.
"Open Doors is calling on Christians in the West to bear this horrific burden with our brothers and sisters in Mubi and Adamawa state," Open Doors USA spokesman Jerry Dykstra said in a press release emailed to The Christian Post.
"Nigeria is becoming a killing field," he added.
Fuentes told CP that according to a local Nigerian police chief, Monday night's killing were performed by Boko Haram as an act of reprisal after 156 Boko Haram members were arrested in Mubi in late September.
Fuentes told CP over the phone interview that the goal of the terror group, which has reportedly overtaken 13 of Nigeria's northern states, is to make the country a completely Islamic nation and rid it of all western influence.
"In these [Nigerian] states to be a Christian is of grave danger," Fuentes said, adding that killing Christians is "Boko Haram's way of wiping out western influence."
Fuentes confirmed that in Mobi, where Monday's massacre took place, there has been some form of violent attack on Christians nearly every day since Nov. 2011.
Fuentes shared the testimonials involving a change of heart by two Boko Haram members. In one testimonial, a former Boko Haram member found the Gospel of Jesus Christ and converted. He now serves as a witness to other Boko Haram members, and although he receives threats to his life daily, he has managed to stay alive.
Other Boko Haram members, according to Fuentes, have not converted to Christianity but have seen the "goodness of the Christian religion" and now warn Christians before there is an attack.
In light of Monday's attack, Open Doors USA requested that all Christians pray for the families of the deceased students, who have been "thrown into mourning" and are reportedly in "indescribably pain right now."
"Please pray for the parents, families and friends of the innocent victim of this slaughter. Pray that they will receive the comfort only our Lord can give. Pray that justice will prevail. Pray that Christians will not retaliate," Open Doors said.
Boko Haram has yet to openly claim responsibility for Monday night's massacre. #TRUETALK!!!

LAGOS WILL NO LONGER ALLOW OTHER STATE'S' PLATE NUMBERS - SAYS GOVT...HMMM

The Lagos State Government yesterday said it would no longer allow the use of vehicles with number plates from other states of the federation for commercial transportation in the state.

It also advised residents with private vehicles to change to the state’s number plates to reflect the fact that they are living in Lagos.

The Director, Vehicle Inspection Office, Mr, Gbolahan Toriola, said the measure was meant to achieve “sanity, standard, safety and security” as stipulated by the road traffic law.

Toriola spoke at the vehicle inspection safety campaign organised by the Ministry of Transportation in conjunction with the Political and Legislative Bureau for commercial drivers in Ikeja.
He said, “There is nothing wrong in bringing commercial buses from other states. But if you must use it in Lagos, you have to change the colour and re-register it with us so that we have your information in our database.

“This is a standard procedure. As a matter of fact, it you have lived in a state for about three months, you are no longer a visitor and therefore you must change your number plate to reflect the state. It is done in America and other developed nations.

“Of course, this provision did not affect inter-state vehicles carrying passenger from other state. But we don’t expect them to pick or drop passengers at every bus stop. There are dedicated bus stops and parks for inter-state vehicles. If they violate this and we get them, they will face our law.

“You must put waste basket in your buses; there must be first aid box; you must carry extra tyres. These are what our law stipulates.”

The VIO boss who highlighted the provisions of the traffic law, advised them to cooperate with the government to ensure security in the state.

A director in the ministry, Mr. Bola Matanmi, also advised the drivers not to turn themselves to traffic officials, but instead apply to the ministry so that they would be given a Special Marshall status.
He added that the union would be given the privilege to choose the colour of the uniform for drivers and conductors.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Political and Legislative Affairs, Mr. Muslim Folami, said the traffic law, which has 43 sections and four schedules was for the interest of Lagosians. He urged the drivers to submit to the law for sanity and safety. #TRUETALK!!!
